Join the San Francisco Bay Ferry, the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park, Rosie the Riveter Trust and Transbay Coalition for this historic Transit Month event! Take the inaugural “Rosie Ride: A Riveting Ferry Adventure” from the San Francisco Ferry Building to the Rosie the Riveter Visitor center for a self-guided history tour and then ferry back to SF.
The Bay Area was the center of this fascinating part of American and feminist history and you are invited to learn more on land and on the Bay itself.
The event starts at 2pm at the San Francisco Ferry Building, Gate F and we will catch the 2:05 ferry to Richmond. Aboard, riders will be able to download the National Park Service App and listen to an audio tour about three World War II historic sights visible from the ferry as you come into Richmond:
At the dock, attendees will be greeted by a National Park Service Ranger and enjoy a self-guided 90-minute tour of the Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center. There will be optional special activities for kids. The Visitor Education Center provides educational and interactive exhibits. People of all ages can learn about this important time and place in history and how it impacted our daily lives. Attendees will learn about the efforts and sacrifices of American civilians on the World War II Home Front. Find out how they lived, worked and got along. Many faces, many stories, many truths weave a complex tapestry of myths and realities from this time of opportunity and loss.
After the tour, attendees will ferry back to San Francisco, docking at the Ferry Building at 5:50pm.
