SUMMARY:The Inaugural "Rosie Ride: A Riveting Ferry Adventure"
DESCRIPTION:Join the San Francisco Bay Ferry\, the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park\, Rosie the Riveter Trust and Transbay Coalition for this historic Transit Month event! Take the inaugural “Rosie Ride: A Riveting Ferry Adventure” from the San Francisco Ferry Building to the Rosie the Riveter Visitor center for a self-guided history tour and then ferry back to SF. \nThe Bay Area was the center of this fascinating part of American and feminist history and you are invited to learn more on land and on the Bay itself. \nThe event starts at 2pm at the San Francisco Ferry Building\, Gate F and we will catch the 2:05 ferry to Richmond. Aboard\, riders will be able to download the National Park Service App and listen to an audio tour about three World War II historic sights visible from the ferry as you come into Richmond: \n\nShipyard 3\, where more than 747 vessels were built here in the four Richmond Kaiser Shipyards during World War II; a feat not equaled anywhere else in the world\, before or since.\n\n\nThe SS Red Oak Victory Ship\, the last surviving vessel of those 747 ships.\n\n\nFord Motor Company Assembly Plant\, the largest assembly plant to be built on the West Coast and its conversion to wartime production during World War II aided the United States’ war effort\n\nAt the dock\, attendees will be greeted by a National Park Service Ranger and enjoy a self-guided 90-minute tour of the Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center. There will be optional special activities for kids. The Visitor Education Center provides educational and interactive exhibits. People of all ages can learn about this important time and place in history and how it impacted our daily lives. Attendees will learn about the efforts and sacrifices of American civilians on the World War II Home Front. Find out how they lived\, worked and got along. Many faces\, many stories\, many truths weave a complex tapestry of myths and realities from this time of opportunity and loss. \nAfter the tour\, attendees will ferry back to San Francisco\, docking at the Ferry Building at 5:50pm. \n*This event and Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center is free to attend\, but registration does not include the fare for the ferry. We appreciate you signing up so we have a good count of how many people to expect. Registrants may be contacted by the event sponsors after the event. \n*Snacks and drinks are available for purchase on the ferry and at Assemble Kitchen next to the Visitor Center. You can also get a coupon from the Visitor Center and go shop for discounted Columbia\, Mountain Hardware\, Prana and Sorel items at the Columbia Employee Store located on the north side of the Ford Building.

SUMMARY:A Cable Car is Born (Tour)
DESCRIPTION:Cable cars are synonymous with San Francisco\, but do you know about their history? The world’s last manually operated cable car system and an iconic San Francisco attraction\, the three remaining lines of the cable car system have remained essentially unchanged since its invention in 1873 by an engineer Andrew Hallidie. At night\, these historic cars take rest in the cable car barn and powerhouse on Mason Street\, where they are meticulously maintained to preserve this piece of San Francisco history. Join SPUR for a special tour of the cable car barn to see where these historic streetcars reside when they’re not in operation\, and how they’re restored so locals and tourists alike can continue to enjoy their rides through the city.

SUMMARY:Manny Yekutiel in Conversation with BART Officials on a Moving BART Train!
DESCRIPTION:As a part of our site\, specific event\, serious\, Mannys is hosting a conversation with the president of the BART board Janice Li and the general manager Bob Powers to discuss the state of public transportation across the bay area and in particular the BART system. \nPublic transportation is facing a once in a century crisis\, with a combination of slow recovery from the pandemic\, mixed with increasing structural deficits\, stocking fears of a transportation doom loop. \nHear directly from one of the most important Bay Area public transportation agencies but let’s do it on the system itself! \nWe will be meeting at the 16th St. BART station and we’ll be taking over one entire BART car for the conversation down to SFO and back. \n**Don’t be late! Because we are going on a moving train we can’t wait for anyone who is running late* \nWhile this event is free\, you will need to pay for the BART ride. You will need $6.40 on your Clipper card. \nWe will meet near the agent booth\, go through the BART fare gates then we will board the first car of an SFO bound train. \nIf you have any questions\, please reach out to angelina@welcometomannys.com

SUMMARY:Rally for safe streets on August 22
DESCRIPTION:A four-year-old child was killed in the crosswalk in San Francisco on August 15\nThis can never happen again.\nWe must stand together to show that this tragedy is unacceptable – and so is inaction by City leaders. Our streets must be made safe for children and all of us. \nWhen: Tuesday\, August 22\, 2023 from 5:00 – 6:00PM\nWhere: The plaza next to Caltrain at 4th & King Streets\nWhat: We will create a memorial for the child and rally for change.\nBring: Stuffed animals to add to the memorial\, and strollers to show solidarity. \nCrossing the street should never be life-or-death. \nThe 4th & King intersection is incredibly dangerous. This piece by KTVU 2 makes it very clear how vulnerable a person is when crossing here. And there are too many intersections just like this across San Francisco. \nSo please stand with us on Tuesday for real change on our streets. Spread the word – here’s a flyer you can share. \nThis is a moment where we must be loud.

SUMMARY:Let’s finish the job on a faster\, safer Geary!
DESCRIPTION:Improvements east of Stanyan gave us a Geary that is faster\, with 18% faster travel for the 38/38R\, and safer\, with an 81% drop in excessive speeding. The Geary Boulevard Improvement Project extends the work of the Geary Rapid Project\, which was completed in 2021. It adds four major components to Geary\, from Stanyan to 34th ave\, which you can learn more about here. \nThe SFMTA Board will vote on the Geary Boulevard Improvement Project on August 15th. Meeting starts at 1pm. If you’d like to give a public comment in support\, please fill out the form below so we can send you example talking points\, and a reminder the day before. For those commenting by phone\, we’ll also send a text/SMS when it’s time to call in! \nIf you have any questions\, please reach out to info@fastersafergeary.org. \nPlease note that the SFMTA Board is currently limiting phone public comments to 10 minutes total per agenda item. Giving your comment in person at city hall guarantees that you’ll be heard. If you’re phoning in\, the earlier you call in once the item is called\, the higher the chance your comment will be heard. \nFinally\, if you haven’t already done so\, please send a letter to city leaders\, including the SFMTA Board\, right now! You can send a letter here.

SUMMARY:Celebrate our state budget win!
DESCRIPTION:Transit advocates and supporters will be gathering Sunday\, July 30th\, at Barebottle Brewing\, Salesforce Park from 3-5pm to celebrate achieving a state budget win for transit. \nThanks to your support\, we won a significant reprieve and new funding for transit in the state budget. After marches\, rallies\, and 10\,000+ phone calls\, Governor Newsom signed a budget that: \n\nAdded $1.1B in flexible funding that can easily be used for transit service to prevent cuts and regrow ridership.\nRestored $2B in TIRCP capital funding\, enabling long planned Bay Area projects to move forward.\n\nThis funding doesn’t resolve the Bay Area’s five-year transit deficit (~$2.5B)\, but it does stave off devastating budget cuts. Come celebrate the win and get ready for the next steps to help public transit survive and thrive! \nThis is a Buy Your Own Beer (from Barebottle) event. The location is outside\, wheelchair accessible via elevators\, kid friendly\, and near a playground. Bring your loved ones!
